The MiraTone Festival and Academy, founded by violinist Miranda Liu, is filling Budapest with music for the eighth time this year. Over the years, the event has become a defining gathering place in the European classical music scene, where internationally acclaimed artists from around the world inspire one another and the audience.

 

This evening is not about grand dramas, but rather a celebration of beauty, harmony, and the joy of music. It is the perfect opportunity to rediscover, through Mozart’s music, why he has remained one of the most beloved and cherished figures in classical music for 270 years.

Few composers have had their names so closely associated with the concepts of musical beauty, naturalness, and joy. Even after more than two centuries, his works speak to the listener with the same freshness, immediacy, and captivating power as they did in his own time.

The evening titled “Mozart 270” showcases the Salzburg master’s genius from three different perspectives. The first part of the concert features two rarely heard gems. The Andante in C major, KV 315, is one of the most beautiful lyrical pieces in the flute repertoire, in which the instrument’s singing tone sounds almost like a human voice. The Rondo in C major, KV 373, on the other hand, dazzles the audience with its effortless elegance and brilliant virtuosity.

As a special highlight between the two Mozart works, Sérgio Azevedo’s composition “5 Borboletas para Olga” will be performed—marking its Hungarian premiere. With their playfulness and rich, colorful sound, the Portuguese composer’s five short, delicate character pieces fit perfectly with the mood of the evening. The work will be performed by Adriana Ferreira, Sérgio Pires, and László Borbély, whose international experience promises a special performance.

The second half of the evening features one of Mozart’s most perfect chamber music works, the Clarinet Quintet in A major. Mozart composed the piece for his friend, the outstanding clarinetist Anton Stadler, and it revealed to the audience the instrument’s previously almost unknown capabilities. The dialogue between the clarinet and the string quartet is at once intimate and brilliant, and the beauty of the slow movement has been considered one of the most moving moments in chamber music for generations.

The concert is also a special international gathering. Artists from Portugal, Hungary, the United States, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Poland will take the stage together to celebrate the timeless elegance and human warmth of Mozart’s music.
