The MiraTone Festival and Academy, founded by violinist Miranda Liu, is filling Budapest with music for the eighth time this year. Over the years, the event has become a defining gathering place in the European classical music scene, where internationally acclaimed artists from around the world inspire one another and the audience.
This evening is for those who love the richness of emotion and the immediate power of chamber music. The concert, titled “Lyricism and Virtuosity,” showcases the most beautiful side of Romanticism: a world where deep emotions, brilliant instrumental skill, and the intimacy of chamber music come into perfect balance.
The first half of the evening features Richard Strauss’s Violin and Piano Sonata in E-flat major, performed by Andrii Murza and Krzysztof Książek. One of the young Strauss’s most popular chamber music works, it is both passionate and poetic. The work’s sweeping finale is one of the most thrilling moments in the Romantic repertoire.
After the intermission, Robert Schumann’s masterpiece, the Piano Quintet in E-flat major, will be performed—one of the best-known and most beloved works in the history of chamber music. Schumann dedicated the piece to his wife, Clara Schumann; it was composed during one of the happiest periods of the composer’s career. The brilliant opening movement is followed by intimate lyrical moments, playful passages, and a triumphant finale, which has rightly established the work as one of the timeless classics of Romantic chamber music.
