László Borbély, winner of the Junior Prima and Artisjus awards, is one of Hungary's most active solo pianists. He frequently performs in concert halls both in Hungary and abroad. He has appeared at such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall in New York, Hermitage Theatre in St. Petersburg, Zipper Hall in Los Angeles, Palacio de Festivales in Santander, Lutosławski Concert Studio in Warsaw, and Ilshin Hall in Seoul. Over the past seven years, he has recorded more than twenty albums with Hunnia Records. His recordings include Bach's Goldberg Variations, The Art of Fugue, and Wohltemperiertes Klavier Volume I, Liszt's Sonata and Après un lecture du Dante, Chopin's mature works, Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, a selection of Rachmaninoff's Etudes and Preludes, a selection of Poulenc's works, Béla Bartók's three piano concertos and the entire Catalogue d'oiseaux by Olivier Messiaen, as well a selction of György Ligeti's works.  enjoys  Numerous composers have written new works for him, including György Kurtág, József Soproni, Marcell Dargay, Máté Balogh, Péter Tornyai and Csanád Kedves. His Chopin album („Secrets – mature works for piano”) recently won the NativeDSD platform's "Album of the Year 2025" award in the solo category. His Bartók album, recorded with Márta Ábrahám violinist, not only won "Album of the Year" in the duo category, but also won the overall audience award. He is a regular partner of numerous ensembles, most notably the Carpathian Impressions trio, which he founded with pianist Éva Polgár and jazz pianist Gábor Varga. He is also a member of Metrum Ensemble founded by Lajos Rozmán. In addition to performing, Borbély is also heavily involved in educating the younger generation. He has been teaching for nearly twenty years and is currently an associate professor at the Liszt Academy of Music, as well as the program director for keyboard and accordic studies at the Doctoral School. Many of his students have gone on to pursue international careers. He is also invited to serve on the jury of domestic and international competitions. Since May 2025, he has been the secretary general of the Hungarian Franz Liszt Society. Domestic and international critics praise the "intoxicating purity and power" of his playing, its "transcendent spirituality" and "technique bordering on maniacal virtuosity."

 

Borbély is a regular performer at the MiraTone Festival and Academy, and he has performed with Miranda Liu violinist on numerous occasions. They are currently working on performing and recording all of Beethoven’s sonatas.
